Review: Jon Connor "The People's Rapper LP"

There are two type of artist in the world, those who pave their own way through the music industry and those who fall in place with other artist and manage to do well in that template. Jon Connor is someone that would definitely be referred to in statement one.  Jon Connor, a Michigan native has the lyrical firepower of Eminem and  and the edge of artist such as T.I.  Which is a pretty big statement, but this man lives up to every expectation that a hip hop artist is expected to live up to. On this mixtape, which is a tribute to Eminem's "Marshal Mathers LP" he collaborates with the powers of DJ Don Cannon and brings his lyrical prowess from the intro til the very last track. "Cold Win Blows" does exactly what an intro is suppose to do, prepare the artist for what is next to come, and he does this well. There are also other standout tracks such as "Til I Collapse" which was over the breakdown of the music industry's idea on selecting artist to give record deals as well as explain how the commercial artist is depicted both truthfully and in a fictional sense. "8 Mile Road" was another great track that was a tribute to other artist that have paved the way through hip hop (not only Eminem). Then there was the heart-filled "When I'm Gone" that matches the emotion of Eminem in the original with more original subject matter. This mixtape is a definite download for those who love lyrics in general, but if you are looking for original instrumentals it may leave you wanting more. Either way, it shows   that artist have roots and inspirations of their own, and some come out to be even greater artist themselves.
