Album Review: O.N.I.F.C.

Once again Wiz is back with his new album ONIFC (One Night In First Class for those with edited versions, but Only Nigga In First Class for everyone else). After the backlash for his suspect album cover and his release of "Remember You" he has released a project with some doubt clouding over his album. For starters all the beats are winners here, once again working with Cardo, Sledgren, and the rest of the Taylor Gang camp (along with a couple others) there is no shortage of great beats to ride to. From the airy intro to the end with "Remember You" you can find yourself having the ability to catch a vibe you can ride out or smoke to. Lyrically there were some surprises here, it seems that Wiz gets back in touch with his old style and delivery which makes his weed lyrics flow nicely over beats, but not every song was about weed here (even though there was at least one line about it each song). The surprising "non-weed" songs were "Let It Go  ft. Akon" whose voice helped this song sound mainstream, but also assisted carrying on the message of letting go of grudges, lead single "Work Hard, Play Hard", "Got Everything" which was an ode to the love of his life Amber Rose, "Rise Above" which presents new artist Tuki Carter, "Initiation" which received some nice wordplay from Lola Monroe, and "The Plan ft. Juicy J" which is a story of Wiz's come up, and we surprisingly mellow to have Juicy on the track. Not saying that Wiz's weed lyrics were not impressive at some point, but being to redundant can kill the vibe. Features were much like his first album, only present when they could add to the song. "Rise Above" even included a bridge from Amber Rose and verse from Pharell making it a must listen track on the album. Overall this album included reaching back to his roots to reach his older fanbase without changing completely leaving his new followers. A solid effort all the way around for what is expected from him, but is not for the listener who is heavy on lyrical wordplay.
